St Leonard's Church
Shoreditch
St Leonard’s was built between 1736 and 1740 to the designs of George Dance the Elder. The Heritage Lottery Fund funded the first phase of a major programme of repair, restoration and new building. The north and south galleries have been reinstated, gallery clock and monuments conserved and M&E services renewed. The adjoining hall has been refurbished to include a platform lift, toilets, kitchen, and new openings into the church. A drop-in centre has been formed in the north west vestibule to help vulnerable members of the community and a housing charity occupy new offices. Future work may involve roof and steeple repairs, external cleaning, glazing repairs, redecoration, relighting and restoration of the pipe organ.
