St Alfege Church, Greenwich

RGA have completed several phases of a major programme of cleaning, repairs and improvement of the church for visitor access over several years and have recently completed a £1.2million NHLF-funded project to re-establish St Alfege Church at the centre of Greenwich, repairing the fabric, revealing Hawksmoor’s architecture, and providing access to welcome visitors to the World Heritage site.

The project included opening up and making accessible for the first time the church’s hidden spaces such as the Crypt to local people, national and international visitors. RGA also helped reveal important historic documents artefacts and monuments within the church, which were included in the projects activity plan.

The church was made fully accessible to visitors and parishioners alike with a new ramp additional facilities, new landscaping, interpretation route and activity programmes. Roof repairs, repairs to the remaining elevations and to external railings were also carried out.

The stunning quality of Hawksmoor’s architecture can now be appreciated to the full.
